Chalk Nature Map with Michelle Hallinan

Connecting with Nature Pathway with Michelle Hallinan is an ephemeral community project where participants ideas/sketches are drawn onto the pavement using coloured chalk.

Participants walk around the environment observing and connecting to the trees and vegetation, noticing the colours and textures and patterns. Then we sketch the observed textures, colours and patterns of trees and vegetation onto A3 sheets of paper to use as a reference for the chalk drawing.

Using pavement chalk, participants are allocated a section of pavement to draw their discovery. The completed mural would be the outcome of the workshops. Participants are able to take home their own sketch and take a photo of their section in the completed project. This workshop provides participants the opportunity to explore their creativity, connect to the natural environment of Newcastle in a different way and contribute to a larger creative project.
