Bio:

Liss Finney is a Newcastle based, multi-disciplinary artist originally from Tasmania. Her art practice is extremely dynamic, including paintings, scientific illustration, video installation, sculpture and photography. Liss works with a variety of subjects including portraiture and landscape painting, but often her works highlight concerns around climate and environmental degradation.

Made.In.Newcastle Project:

Liss Finney created a ‘treasure hunt’ type installation in and around Hunter Street Mall, using various animal foot prints on the ground, leading kids and adults alike to discovering hidden animals and creatures on the walls, ground or nooks of buildings. Participants experienced a fun way to explore the area by foot and also learn about the animal inhabitants in the Hunter area. Also incorporated was information on the creature, including the Awabakal name of the animal, its current population status and any threats to the species to help educate the public about Australia’s current extinction crisis. The hunt included the precise animal track leading to the hidden animal, so participants could learn how to identify different tracks when out in nature, as well as life size renderings of the different animals peeking out from various sites.

Liss also participated in Wheely Days Out, in which she created a temporary bamboo xylophone, encouraging passers by to play and participate by making music.
