Made.In.Newcastle Project:

Presenting his work at the Top Shelf Excellent Mid City Launch Party, Conor explored and addressed the subtle effects Covid-19 has had on public space, interpersonal relations and our physical senses. He set up a simple hand-washing station. 2 stools and a table with a basin with warm soapy water, towels, hand sanitiser, scented moisturisers and flowers. A sign invited people to come and have their hands washed.

Conor offered to wash their hands, or participants washed each other’s, adding extra hand care with creams and oils. This interactive installation aimed to reframe hand hygiene from a fear-based protective behaviour into an interpersonal act of care and connection. The use of rich, comforting sensory stimuli aimed to shift focus from sterility and clinical space to a more wholesome, embodied experience.
